During the Break

  • We encourage you to let your RA know if you are staying in University Village for any portion or the entire break period.
  • Because annual inspections and periodic maintenance are completed during break, staff may enter your space. Your RA has signs that you can post on your door to alert staff that you are in your room. We encourage you to post this only on inside doors, not public facing doors.
  • University Housing staff will be entering all rooms to perform routine maintenance and security inspections. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure that no potential fire or safety hazards exist while the halls are closed, and to confirm that if you do leave during the break, you have completed the steps below. However, you can expect that any policy violations (alcohol, appliances, etc.) will be reported to your RLC/RCC. Air filters will be checked in all rooms. Any violations from the previous break should be resolved and failure to do so may result in further consequences.
  • During the entire break period, all rules, policies, and procedures remain in effect and are enforced. This is considered a no guest time period.
  • Any vehicles left over break in the B lot must display a valid campus parking permit. Any cars at UV must have a valid permit.
  • A Resident Advisor will be on call during the break. The Residential Life staff Spring Break duty schedule will be posted at the UV Service Desk.

Emergency Telephone Numbers for the Break

• University Police Department – (530) 898-5555

• University Village Desk – (530) 898-4463

If You Do Choose to Leave During Break

  • Make sure you:
    • Lock all doors (kitchen, bathroom, patio, or balcony)
    • Close all windows (kitchen and bedroom).
    • Unplug all power strips and counter top appliances in your suite/studio (as a fire safety precaution) and turn off lights.
  • University Housing does not take responsibility for valuables left in UV apartments or in vehicles. It is recommended that you take all valuables home with you (computers, stereos, TV/DVD, Video Games). If you have any questions, contact your RCC. (Please refer to your Student Housing License Agreement section 16 – Insurance).
  • If you have a bike, take it home or store it in your room. As a reminder, you are not permitted to store your bike in the kitchen, patio or balcony area. You are also not permitted to store a motorcycle, moped, electric scooters, or gasoline in your room. This is a State Fire Marshal regulation. For removal and impounding, the responsible resident will be charged. UPD will remove bikes left in bike racks over the break and if they are not registered to you, you may not get them back.
  • Be sure to label all of your food in the fridge and throw away any perishable items before you leave if no one else is there to eat it.
  • Clean your kitchen, bathroom, living room, patio/balcony and take out your trash. Failure to remove trash may result in a charge.
  • All pets and emotional support animals must be taken with you for the break. Aquariums may be left if there is someone in your house/suite who can feed the fish.
