Choose Well Live Well Be Well

Open enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to evaluate and make necessary changes to your benefit programs. It is an opportune time to view health costs and plan changes and decide what best fits your needs. If you do nothing, your medical, dental, and vision enrollment will continue into the 2018 plan year.

What You Need to Review

What You Need to Know

  • Most health plan premiums have decreased (or remained at $0) for 2018, with an average of 51% decrease in premium costs!  Plan rates are determined by CalPERS.
  • The Flexible Spending Accounts (Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts and Health Care Reimbursement Accounts) require annual re-enrollment.
  • If you do nothing, your medical, dental, and vision enrollment will continue into the 2018 plan year.

What's New for 2018

  • Blue Shield Access+ HMO: Away From Home Care Program will not be offered to CalPERS members for the 2018 plan year. This includes coverage for students living away from home or families living apart for extended periods of time.  PLEASE NOTE: Emergency or urgent care when you or your covered dependents are traveling outside of the coverage area for short periods of time will continue to be covered.
  • Vision Service Plan (VSP) Premier:  The CSU is now offering a choice of two vision plans.  The VSP Basic Plan is still provided at no cost to you.  Or, if your choose, you can upgrade to the VSP Premier Plan for a small monthly cost.  The VSP Premier Plan allows higher allowances for frames and contacts every calendar year.  To enroll in the Premier plan contact VSP at 800-400-4569 or visit csuactives.vspforme.com.
  • Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HCRA):  All employees who are currently using the ASIFlex Benny Master Card will be issued the new ASIFlex Visa debit card by January 2018.  You may contribute up to $2,600 each plan year through payroll deduction.
  • Fidelity Roth IRA
    • Fidelity is now offering a Roth contribution option in the 403(b) program, in addition to the traditional 403(b).
    • The Roth option allows a participant to make after-tax contributions to their Fidelity account and withdraw those contributions and accumulated earnings tax-free (subject to the terms of the plan).
  • Pharmacy: New Pharmacy Out-of-Pocket Maximums have been released for 2018.
