Effective Communication
This collection of courses is designed to strengthen the communication skills of CSU employees at all levels. Whether in one-on-one conversations, small group discussions, or larger team settings, these sessions provide practical strategies for giving and receiving feedback, facilitating meetings, addressing conflict, and enhancing overall collaboration to foster clarity, trust, and engagement in the workplace.
- Basic Conflict Resolution Training for Teams
Conflict has the power to lower team morale, productivity, and the overall team environment. However, if managed effectively, conflict can lead to stronger relationships, increased creativity, and a successful team. This session provides useful tools, techniques, and skills to prevent conflicts from escalating within your team.
Learning Outcomes:

- Understanding Seedbed of Conflict and Conflict Cycle
- Understanding the Role of Power in Conflict (Four Options)
- Explain the Value of the Respect Agreements
- Create a Respect Agreement

- Conflict Competence: Resolution and Transformation
This interactive course is designed to help all members of the California State University Chico (CSU, Chico) community, including students, managers, deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff, to develop resilience during times of conflict, reach out to each other and resolve disputes peacefully and constructively.
Learning Outcomes:
- The opportunity for conflict to lead to clarity, closeness, and restoration for individuals and relationships.
- Skills and strategies to increase cooperation to handle conflict situations and decrease power struggles.
- Skills and strategies to transform conflict and conflict situations into teaching/learning moments.

- Advanced Conflict Competence Training for Practitioners
Prerequisite: Conflict Competence Resolution and Transformation
This three-day course is designed to help future practitioners, facilitators, and mediators acquire effective techniques for resolving conflicts using restorative principles. It includes practicums, class discussions, role-plays, and other activities to build understanding and competence.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding Restorative Justice Theory and Principles
- Understanding the Role of Power in Conflict (Four Options)
- Understanding Mediation and the Role of a Mediator
- How to use Restorative Principles in Injustice-based Conflict and Class Practice
- Complete 5 cases (2 observe, 1 co-lead, 2 lead)
- Receive a Certificate as a Restorative Justice Mediator/Facilitator/ Practitioner.

- Conflict Transformation Through Restorative Principles for Meaningful Progress
Conflict Transformation Through Restorative Principles for Meaningful Progress explores the art of addressing conflict as an opportunity for growth and positive change. Rooted in restorative practices, this session provides actionable strategies to foster understanding, repair relationships, and build stronger, more cohesive communities or teams. Participants will engage with principles that empower individuals to transform challenges into meaningful progress, enhancing collaboration and trust in personal and professional settings.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define and understand conflict
- Understand Restorative Principles: Gain insight into the foundational concepts of restorative practices and how they contribute to conflict transformation.
- Identify Growth Opportunities in Conflict: Learn to reframe conflict as a catalyst for progress and development.
- Apply Practical Strategies: Utilize tools and techniques to address and resolve conflicts constructively in various contexts.
