MPP Series
Professional Development for Managers
The MPP Series is a professional learning program designed specifically for CSU employees appointed under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP). These individuals hold designated management or supervisory positions within the CSU system.
This series is open exclusively to MPP employees and provides essential tools, policy guidance, and leadership strategies aligned with CSU expectations and responsibilities. Each session focuses on practical supervisory topics such as evaluation, onboarding, labor relations, accommodations, timekeeping, and progressive discipline.
The MPP Series supports CSU leaders in creating informed, equitable, and effective workplace practices.

- MPP Series: Navigating the CSU Performance Evaluation Process for StaffLearn the ins and outs of the performance evaluation process, including timelines, required documentation, employee input and rebuttals, and how to navigate probationary, temporary, and permanent evaluations within collective bargaining frameworks.
- MPP Series: Supervising in a Union EnvironmentGain insights into the unique responsibilities of supervising represented employees. This session highlights the legal and contractual responsibilities of MPPs, guidance on interpreting labor agreements, and when to consult Human Resources or Employee & Labor Relations.
- MPP Series: Classification and CompensationUnderstand the CSU classification and compensation system. Topics include how to effectively use position descriptions, differentiate types of additional compensation, and align roles with appropriate classifications.
- MPP Series: Onboarding New EmployeesExplore onboarding and recruitment strategies that enhance employee engagement and reinforce organizational mission and values. Emphasis is placed on inclusive practices and early-stage retention strategies.
- MPP Series: Leaves, Accommodations & Employee WellnessThis course focuses on how managers can support employee well-being through informed leave management, workplace accommodations, and wellness initiatives. You’ll learn how to identify early signs of need and access campus resources.
- MPP Series: Managing Time and PayA practical overview of CSU timekeeping and payroll responsibilities for MPPs. Topics may include timesheet approvals, reporting expectations, and how to ensure compliance with payroll timelines and accuracy.
- MPP Series: Implementing Progressive DisciplineEquips supervisors with practical tools to address performance concerns fairly and consistently. This course walks through the discipline process step by step, emphasizing documentation, improvement planning, and due process to ensure accountability while supporting employee success. Participants will leave with the confidence to navigate challenging situations while fostering a culture of fairness and growth.
