International Education Week 2022

International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide, and opportunities for internationalization within our campus community.  This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

Monday, November 14th

Open Doors 2022 Annual Data Release 6:30 – 7:30 a.m.  

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and IIE will release findings from the Open Doors® Report on International Educational Exchange at the annual data release on Monday, November 14, 2022. Experts will release international mobility findings on 2021/22 international student enrollments and 2020/21 U.S. students studying abroad.

IEW Kick-off: Koffee and Kudos 10 – 11:30 a.m.  

Join us for grab-and-go coffee, chai, and donuts, learn about the week's agenda in detail, and check out our International Fashion Show Video release. Check out our very own Wildcats representing their cultures and heritage through traditional clothing

Dialogue: Integrating Global Democracy into Campus Conversations 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  

Join this session with AASCU’s American Democracy Project (ADP) to explore how deliberative dialogues can be integrated on more campuses, especially to expand discussions on global civic responsibility and democratic citizenship.

Hear from presenter, Dr. William Dantona (Faculty of International Studies and Management), and engage in discussion around increasing global interdependence and intercultural communication in the context of globalization.

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Networking Reception 3 – 5 p.m.

IEGE is working closely with Chico State faculty in developing virtual exchange collaborations with international partners. Join us at the reception to learn more about the shared experiences and learning outcomes of Chico State faculty, students, and international teaching partners. International Clubs' Culture & Games Night 5 – 7 p.m.

American and international students are invited to join this fun night of games and sharing culture. International students will share how to play some games from their home countries, and teach you how to write your name in different languages. Of course, we will play some top U.S. favorite games, as well. Like to dance? The Bollywood Dance Club will teach you some steps. Bring your dancing shoes! Food, drinks, and prizes for winners will be provided.

Global Café  11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

International Wildcats and native speakers meet once per week with one shared goal – to meet new friends and enjoy some good conversation in English, while having fun.

Planning on traveling or studying abroad and in need of a U.S. passport? Learn how to apply for a passport right on the Chico State Campus!

The Cross-Cultural leadership Center’s (CCLC) has teamed up with the Office of International Education and Global Engagement to offer an international version of the "Dinner and a Story" series. Currently enrolled international students and international faculty and staff will share their cultural stories over a meal. Study Abroad/Away Returnee Tell All Panel 4 – 5 p.m.

Hear from students who have recently studied abroad or away, as they share about their most awkward moments, meeting locals, day in the life, and more! We will also be releasing our newest Abroadcast (podcast) episode!

From Study Abroad to the State Department: How Developing Global Perspectives Supports U.S. Foreign Policy 11 – 1 p.m.

Join the Inside U.S. Foreign Policy Virtual Seminar which will feature an interview with Secretary of State Antony Blinken exploring how U.S. diplomatic work impacts the lives of the American people and how studying abroad furthers the State Department’s foreign policy mission.
