International Education and Global Engagement

SUSI Index

The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary Educators provides multinational groups of experienced secondary educators (administrators, curriculum developers, education ministry officials, teachers, teacher trainers, and textbook writers) with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, education, culture, values, and institutions.

The Institute will include four weeks of academic residency at California State University, Chico (CSU, Chico), where participants will attend special seminars facilitated by university faculty and community leaders. These four weeks will also include numerous site visits throughout the Northern California region, including the state capitol in Sacramento and the cultural melting pot of San Francisco. Participants will visit schools and educational programs to learn more about the many learning pathways in California, and they will also experience a number of cultural activities such as walking across the Golden Gate Bridge and visiting a National Park.

The institute culminates in a one-week integrated study tour designed to expose the international secondary educators to different regions of the United States, to gain a more well-rounded picture of education and culture in the country. CSU, Chico's participants will spend approximately three days in Chicago, Illinois and finish their program with four days in Washington, D.C.
