How to Apply

Step 1: Are you academically eligible for admission?

Please review academic qualifications before applying.

Step 2: Submit an Online Application

Apply online at Cal State Apply: www2.calstate.edu/apply/international(opens in new window)(opens in new window). When creating your account, please select "F-1 visa" as an international student. A $70 fee is payable online at the time of application.

Step 3: Submit Supporting Documents

In addition to the online application, applicants must upload the following documents on our document submission page:

Overseas Transfer Student (Lower Division) – Fewer Than 60 Transferable Credits

  • Official secondary/high school and all college or university transcripts* – for documents submitted in a language other than English, both the original and a word for word translated English version must be submitted
  • Proof of English language proficiency (Select university code 4048 to electronically send official TOEFL scores to CSU, Chico. For IELTS, scan and email a copy of the official score report.)
  • Copy of passport biographical information page
  • Financial support documents

Overseas Transfer Student (Upper Division) – 60 or More Transferable Credits

  • Official college or university transcripts* – for documents submitted in a language other than English, both the original and a word for word translated English version must be submitted
  • Proof of English language proficiency (Select university code 4048 to electronically send official TOEFL scores to CSU, Chico. For IELTS, scan and email a copy of the official score report.)
  • Copy of passport biographical information page
  • Financial Support Documents

* Unofficial, transcripts will be accepted in order for us to make an expedited admission decision.  However, official transcripts are required to complete your admission file.   

To be considered official, a transcript must be in a sealed envelope and be:

  1. Issued directly from the high school, college or university; or
  2. Sent electronically via an official transcript transmission agency like Parchment

IMPORTANT: We do not provide pre-evaluations for transfer credit.  Transfer credit is evaluated only after you have been admitted to the University, you have officially accepted our offer of admission, and provided your final official transcripts.

Final Official Transcript Submission Deadlines

Admission Denials – Appeal Process

If you feel there is new, serious, and compelling information that might affect our admission decision, you may submit an appeal. You have 15 business days from the date you receive your denial notice to submit an appeal statement and supporting documents to International Admissions (apply@csuchico.edu). You are entitled to one appeal per academic term.
