J&PR – The Write Major

Interested in telling compelling stories – whatever the platform? Want a skill set that will get you a great job in a wide range of fields?

J&PR offers options in NEWS and PUBLIC RELATIONSboth of which focus on storytelling across multiple communication platforms, from traditional media, to social media, to visual media.

Working from home

In fact, we're all working from home! With the exception of JOUR 329 and 358, which are designated as face-to-face / online hybrid classes, J&PR has moved to virtual instruction in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Tehama Group Communications

Tehama Group Communications – A student-managed, full-service public relations agency with on-site consultants offering communications research and planning for up to nine clients per semester.

The Orion
The Orion
 – A student-run, award-winning news organization that features multi-platform daily breaking news online, a weekly print edition and social media coverage of the Chico State community.

Student Work

Students create a range of skills-based work for professional portfolios.

J&PR students create portfolios that include projects from the numerous applied skills and visual storytelling classes offered in the department.

J&PR continues to build on its reputation as a professional skills-based program, with its students winning awards and being selected for competitive scholarships, internships and other honors each year.

Internships

Internship examplesStudents are required to complete at least one faculty-supervised internship before graduation. These hands-on learning experiences provide leadership opportunities and prepare students for industry.
