TIER Project Scholarships

Training in Interdisciplinary Education and Research

Overview

The Training in Interdisciplinary Education and Research (TIER) grant is a federally funded scholarship program focused on training preservice professionals in interdisciplinary collaboration to work with children with significant disabilities.

Who is it for?

Scholars pursuing a master’s degree in Adapted Physical Education (APE) or Communication Sciences and Disorders (CMSD) may apply for funding. Applicants must intend to work with individuals with significant disabilities ranging in age from birth to age 22.

What do CMSD and APE have in common?

Scholars from both disciplines will work collaboratively to serve children with significant disabilities once they graduate.  In the TIER project scholars learn discipline specific content while also learning interdisciplinary skills (PDF) through collaborative assignments, classes and field experiences through their training.

What are the prerequisites?

Communication Sciences and Disorders Scholars:  Scholars must have a BA/BS in communication sciences and disorders and be accepted in to the Chico State graduate program. 

Adapted Physical Education Scholars: Scholars must have a BA/BS in physical education teacher education or hold a credential that authorizes the teaching of physical education. Entrance requirements vary depending on undergraduate work and previous credentials.

How do I Apply?

1. Students must apply to Chico State University through the Office of Graduate Studies to be officially admitted as a graduate student into the program for CMSD or the Kinesiology Department for APE.

2. They must apply to the TIER project directors utilizing the appropriate form below

An Out-of-State Scholar?

3. Students interested in the TIER Project Scholarships and in need of an Out-of-State (OS) tuition fee waiver may still be eligible to apply for the grant. Moving forward, student applicants will continue to follow steps 1 and 2 listed above. The scholarship application deadline will differ for OS scholars. Use the appropriate form below
