The Latinx Graduation Celebration, commonly referred to as "Latinx Grad," was created to honor the achievements of Chico State Latinx graduates and the contributions their families and friends have made during their education. MEChA, a student organization, initiated this event in 1978 to encourage Latinos to pursue higher education. This diverse and intimate English/Spanish bilingual ceremony has flourished and now includes Latinx and non-Latinx students. This celebration is open to all students who meet the graduation eligibility criteria, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.

When is the 2026 Latinx Graduation Celebration?

The 49th Annual Latinx Graduation Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Laxson Auditorium, with two ceremonies at 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM. The two ceremonies are designed to accommodate growing interest in this celebration. Participating graduates are assigned to a ceremony based on their academic college.

  • Latinx Grad is one of several multicultural graduation celebrations at Chico State.
  • The Latinx Grad ceremonies do not conflict with the University Commencement events.
  • Due to limited seating, guest tickets are required for Latinx Grad events.
