What is the Summer Calculus Boot Camp?
The 2024 Summer Calculus Boot Camp (SCBC) is a 3-week in-person program for incoming CSU, Chico freshmen, transfer students, and continuing students designed to improve their problem-solving abilities in a collaborative learning environment conducive to success in science, mathematics, and engineering. The topics covered during the boot camp include fractions, functions and their graphs, rational expressions, exponents and radicals, linear equations and inequalities, absolute value, polynomials, logarithms, exponentials, and trigonometry.
- Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a $1,000 stipend
- Free graphing calculator and supplies
- Computer loan program available
- Development of strong relationships with peers, faculty and staff that will last throughout your college career
- Participants will have the opportunity to strengthen their foundational knowledge mathematics to be prepared for the ALEKS PPL Math/QR Placement Assessment
To be eligible for CSU-LSAMP, a student must be:
- A U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- An undergraduate with a declared major in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics, pursuing a baccalaureate degree (pre-nursing students are not eligible)
- An individual who has faced or faces social, educational, or economic barriers to careers in STEM
- You must have completed trigonometry with a passing grade
- You must be ready to take a pre-calculus or calculus course in the fall
- You must have earned a high school GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Students are expected to attend the entire program, participate in all activities, and complete all assignments
