MA in Language Teaching

TESOL Certificate Program

Graduate Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate Program

Program Information

This 18-unit program prepares professionals with various backgrounds to teach English to speakers of other languages. Graduate TESOL certificates are recognized around the world as advanced level professional preparation in the field. There is a global demand for certified instructors and teachers, as 1.6 billion people speak English as a first, second, or third language.

All students in the MA program in Language Teaching also earn the Graduate TESOL Certificate as part of their required coursework. The certificate can also be pursued independently outside of the MA program. The certificate program is well suited for: students interested in expanding the professional applications of other degrees and credentials by preparing for positions teaching English in the US and abroad; international students interested in teaching English as a Foreign Language in other countries; foreign/second language teachers at the secondary level; individuals who already hold graduate degrees but seek specialized professional preparation in the field; individuals pursuing a Designated Subjects Adult Education Credential (Academic Subject: English as a Second Language); and individuals in related business enterprises (e.g., language institutes, English training in commercial settings).
