Math Graduate Studies Application Process

1.  Consult with the Graduate Coordinator who will help you get started on the the master's program.

2.  Apply for admission to Graduate Studies and the MS in Mathematics Education program.

  • Apply online at Cal State Apply (unless you are already enrolled in another graduate program at CSU, Chico, in which case, you should submit a Change of Program (PDF) form).
  • Choose the term, Fall 2019, even though the program begins Summer 2020.
    • To be accepted you must be in good academic standing at your previous institution,
    • hold a bachelor's degree in mathematics or equivalent from an accredited institution,
    • hold a single subject credential in mathematics (recommended) and
    • have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 semester (or 90 quarter) units attempted.

3.  Upload two letters of recommendation to the Department of Mathematics & Statistics in CalState Apply which address your personal characteristics that are conducive to academic and professional success, such as maturity, motivation, interpersonal skills, and leadership and breadth of experience.  The two letters should be from those who know your work, preferably one from a faculty member from a mathematics department and one from the secondary teaching profession, and must include the Letter of Recommendation Access Waiver Form.

4.  A Mathematics Writing Assessment is required by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics as part of the application process.  Instructions for submission of the writing assessment in the CalState Apply application. Rubric  (PDF)for the initial writing assessment.
