Components are delivered online asynchronously such as lecture videos, quizzes, and homework. In addition, the course meets in person one day weekly to connect with faculty and peers, exams, projects, and collaborative learning.

    MATH 105 sections 48/49 is also offered as an in-person course design utilizing pedagogy, embedded tutors, and collaborative and project-based learning

  • MATH 101+001L: Patterns of Mathematical Thought with Support

    MATH 101 Patterns of Mathematical Thought (3 units) satisfies Area 2 and MATH 001L Support Course for MATH 101 (1 unit) satisfies the Support course requirement. MATH 001L counts towards units for financial aid/enrollment status but, does not count towards units required for a bachelor's degree (non-baccalaureate credit).

    When reviewing the class schedule, choose from MATH 101 sections 10-16 (will auto-enroll into 01) and a section of 001L Support Course for MATH 101. Any section of MATH 101 (section 10-16) can be paired with any section of 001L (section 01-03).

    MATH 110 Concepts & Structures in Math (3 units) satisfies Area 2 and a requirement in the Liberal Studies major (LBST)*. This is applicable to all options in LBST.

    Required for:

    • Area 2 Fulfilled: students declared in LBST who have not earned credit for MATH 110 with transfer, test, or substitution credit
    • Area 2 Ready: students declared in LBST
    • ALEKS PPL: proctored score 46+

    The LBST major requires MATH 110, 210, and 310*

    MATH 110 is offered as either an in-person discussion or an asynchronous online course (priority given to LBST online/distance students).

    MATH 116 College Algebra (4 units) satisfies Area 2 and works towards the STEM/calculus pathway*. MATH 016L Support Course for MATH 116 (1 unit) satisfies the Support course requirement. MATH 016L counts towards units for financial aid/enrollment status but, does not count towards units required for a bachelor's degree (non-baccalaureate credit).

    MATH 116+016L is offered in a lecture/lab model. The course meets four days weekly in lecture format focused on concepts and instruction and one day weekly for a two-hour lab focused on comprehension, support, and review.

    Upon completion, STEM students would move to MATH 118 Trigonometry (3 units) and then either MATH 119 Precalculus (4 units), MATH 120 Analytical Geometry & Calculus I (4 units), or MATH 109 Survey of Calculus (4 units) depending on course outcomes, major, and math confidence.

    *Biology, Computer Information Systems, and Economics majors should consult with a major advisor to determine if the statistics or calculus pathway is recommended.

  • MATH 118: Trigonometry

    MATH 118 Trigonometry (3 units) satisfies Area 2 and works towards the STEM/calculus pathway. MATH 118 completes the math requirement in the Natural Sciences major.

    • Area 2 Fulfilled*: students declared in a STEM major who have not completed MATH 118 with transfer, test, or substitution credit
    • Area 2 Ready: students declared in a STEM major
    • ALEKS PPL: proctored score 46-60

    What Area 2 is required or recommended for my major?

    MATH 118 is a discussion model that meets three times weekly in person.

    Upon completion, STEM students would move to MATH 119 Precaculus (4 units), MATH 120 Analytical Geometry & Calculus I (4 units), or MATH 109 Survey of Calculus (4 units) depending on course outcomes, major, and math confidence.

  • MATH 119: Precalculus

    MATH 119 Precalculus (4 units) satisfies Area 2 and works towards the STEM/calculus pathway. MATH 119 completes the math requirement in Advanced Manufacturing & Applied Robotics or Concrete Industry Management major. 

    Available for:

    • Area 2 Fulfilled*: students declared in a STEM major who have not completed MATH 119 with transfer, test, or substitution credit and meets course prerequisites
    • Area 2 Ready: students declared in a STEM major with proctored ALEKS PPL

    MATH 109 Survey of Calculus (4 units) satisfies Area 2 and is applicable to some STEM** major programs

    • Area 2 Fulfilled*: students declared in a STEM major who have not completed MATH 109 with transfer, test, or substitution credit and meets course prerequisites
    • Area 2 Ready: students declared in a STEM major with proctored ALEKS PPL
    • ALEKS PPL: proctored score 76+

    What Area 2 is required or recommended for my major?

    MATH 109 is a discussion/lecture model

    Due to decreases in demand, MATH 109 may not be scheduled every semester and will likely update to a once per year offering (fall only). MATH 109 Survey of Calculus is not an approved substitute for MATH 120 Analytical Geometry & Calculus. If MATH 109 is not offered, MATH 120 should be taken instead.

    For most STEM programs, upon completion of MATH 116+016L & 118, MATH 118 & MATH 119, or MATH 119, students move to MATH 120 Analytical Geometry & Calculus I (4 units) or MATH 109 Survey of Calculus (4 units) as needed

    MATH 121 Analytic Geometry & Calculus II (4 units) is applicable towards STEM majors requiring advanced caculus

    Available for:

    • Area 2 Fulfilled: students declared in a STEM major who meet the course prerequisites (MATH 120/equivalent or qualifying Advanced Placement Caclulus score*)

    What Area 2 is required or recommended for my major?

    MATH 121 is a discussion model that meets four times weekly in person

    For most STEM programs, upon completion of MATH 120 Analytic Geometry & Calculus I students move to MATH 121 Analytic Geometry & Calculus II (4 units) as needed

    *AP Score(s) required: Caculus AB or BC score of 5, or Caclulus BC score 4 with an AB subscore of 5, or AP Caculus AB or BC score of 4 with 90+ score on ALEKS PPL. Contact the Math Department for enrollment assistance.
