Revolution Within the Revolution: Feminism in Cuba with Cuban author Mirta Yáñez

Cubanabooks Press would like to invite you all to Revolution within the Revolution, as we host award-winning Cuban author and outspoken feminist, Mirta Yáñez, speaking about women’s struggles within the Cuban revolution. This interactive event will highlight Cuban women’s roles, struggles and power, which are central to Yáñez’s short stories in, "Havana is a Really Big City." The event features a facilitated group discussion, book signing/selling, and a Q&A segment. We hope to create a safe space where attendees can gain awareness of controversial subjects from the past and the present.

However, Mirta Yáñez is worried she won't get her visa in time to make it to the event. In the event that this occurs and her visa is denied, Bay Area poet and original member of the Venceremos Brigade, Tony Ryan, will speak against the blockade, and we will provide a variety of methods to protest the U.S embargo on Cuba. We will have a letter/petition for people to send electronically and also have a letter/petition for people to sign at the event.
