Tray Robinson

Lecturer of Multicultural & Gender Studies

Biography

Hello, my name is Travon (Tray) Robinson.  I was born in Los Angeles, but raised in Compton California. I came to Chico in the fall of 1989 as a first generation college student and received my undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies/Bilingual in the fall of 1995 and my MA in Interdisciplinary Studies/Human Relations in the spring of 2010.

My passion is working with students.  I want to give them the positive experience and support that was given to me when I was a student.  Music is my other passion.  I love to listen to it, play it, and write it.  I play saxophone and am currently learning how to play guitar. My hobbies include reading, writing poems, watching movies, playing sports, cycling, serving our community and enjoying the company of my husband, family and friends.

As an instructor, my inclusive pedagogical approach to teaching is student-centered, one in which students are encouraged to be equal partners in the learning process.  As bell hooks advocates, my classroom is an area of exploration and mutual participation, which requires knowledge of students, different cultural ways of exploration and self-actualization to foster critical thinking skills.
