Office Internship

The Multicultural and Gender Studies office is hiring for Intern positions starting the Spring of 2019. These Interns work closely with the Director and the Office Staff with Outreach and Public Relations, Graphic Design, Research and Program Development, and Event Coordination. Each Intern completes hours that satisfy their major or minor's required hours and complete work that broadens their understanding of Chico State's diverse population. Through networking with organizations on and off campus, the interns gain perspective on Departmental work and create a network of communication spanning the campus and the city itself.

We are hiring two Outreach and Public Relations Interns and one Research and Program Development Intern.

MCGS offers two specialized intern positions

Details of each position are listed below:

1) Outreach & Public Relations

120-150 hours per semester

Reporting structure: 

General oversight performed by department ASC.


This position will be responsible for online presence to include updating and maintaining MCGS Social Media sites, marketing strategies, and representing as a Chico State liaison. Social Media sites include MCGS Chico state Website and Department Facebook, Instagram and Twitter; press releases as outreach to campus, local, and regional media.

Marketing Strategies:

  • Implementation and updating of marketing strategy
  • Intern will update and implement marketing strategy and then develop strategy for the next semester

Acts as Liaison for Chico State MCGS. This position will conduct outreach to specified groups:

  • Outreach to student groups, units, organization, departments, high schools, junior colleges, and community groups as assigned by Director
  • Develop relationships with leaders across campus
  • Attend and perform presentations about MCGS to CSUC departments and clubs on campus as well as organizations in the community
  • Develop relationships with community leaders, groups, and populations

Tabling information and items:

  • Keeping the Tabling box inventory up to date
  • Working know-how of the department to answer general questions
  • keeping track of tabling collateral
  • Staffing for events
  • Keeping track of dates for events MCGS is invited to
  • Readying materials for events according to their theme/program/audience
  • Sometimes the Department may require Outreach Intern to table alone on campus and at events

Other duties as assigned by ASC and Director:

  • From time to time, other tasks will be given
2) Research and Program Development

120-150 hours per semester

Reporting structure: 

Reports to Director


This position will assist the Director in conducting research of other Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Studies, Sexuality Studies, Women’s Studies and Gender Studies departments throughout the country and developing departmental level programmatic and curricular changes.

  • Assist director with research to find best practices from proven successful programs

Develop Program Strategy

  • Assist with the development of program strategic plan at department level
  • Assist with curricular development

Courtney Riley
Intern Courtney Riley

Courtney Riley is one of our Outreach & Public Relations Interns for the Fall 2018 semester. She is a senior with plans to be graduating in Spring 2019 with a Public Relations major and a Business Management minor. Currently, Courtney is working with our on campus and community outreach, as well as promote events and create content for social media. 

Nicholle Haber
Nicholle haber intern

Nicholle is currently pursuing a degree in Multicultural and Gender Studies and plans to get her masters in social sciences. She is currently a board member of Legal Services of Northern Ca, the Chico Chapter Aclu, and a local business owner. Civic engagement has been a major part of Nicholle's adult life, and she believes we can create change by acting locally and thinking globally.
