Jobs and Internships

University Career Center

The university's Career Center helps students arrange summer and/or academic year internships as well as find permanent employment.

Academic Credit for an Industrial Internship

The department awards up to three units of academic credit for qualifying industrial internships. Students register for either MECA 389, MECH 389, or SMFG 389 depending on their program. Three units of internship credit can be earned for 400 hours of relevant work experience tied to established learning objectives. Those three units can be used to satisfy a technical elective in your program. The required steps are:

  1. Receive prior approval by completing an Industrial Internship Approval form (PDF).
  2. Complete at least 400 hours of relevant work experience tied to established learning objectives.
  3. Enroll in a total of 3 units of MECA 389, MECH 389, or SMFG 389. Students must be enrolled in at least 1 unit during the semester in which the work was accomplished.
  4. Complete and submit the  Industrial Internship - Post Experience Documentation Form (PDF) to the department office.

General questions about the process can be answered at the department office. Questions about technical elective credit or how it will impact your program of study should be addressed to your faculty advisor. Completed forms can be emailed directly to the department chair.
