Greg D'Augelli

Studio - Strings

Greg D’Augelliis active as a woodwind artist and bassist. Greg has been at CSU, Chico since 2006. His teaching at CSUC includes: Studio Saxophone, Bass, Jazz History, Jazz Arranging, Sax Ensemble, and Technique of woodwinds. Greg began his musical carrier at the young age of 6. Inspired by his Grandfather’s clarinet playing. Greg’s Uncle was a Music Teacher at Bancroft Junior High School in San Leandro, CA where Greg was involved in Concert and Dance Bands. In High School, Greg’s inspiration came through the live concerts of legends such as: Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, and Sonny Rollins. Greg also had an interest in improvisation and composition that came after he graduated High School. Greg began playing with bay area jazz veteranssuch as: Ed Kelly, Smiley Winters, Achuytan,and Jon Faddis. Joined Musicians’’ Union at the age of 17 to play Rock N’ Roll bands at local venues and clubs with acts like the Platters, Bobby Freeman, Ringling Brothers Circus, and various freelance Dance, Latin, and Swing Bands. While playing with a Latin group, Greg has the opportunity to record Background Music for bilingual children’s television programs called “Villa Alegre”.

Greg’s interest in teaching started shortly after high school beginning with private free instruction for local youth band. During this time, Greg also taught lessons in a San Leandro Music Store. His passion for teaching continued on to the present. In 1999 D’Augelli worked for producer Bill Botrell on a recording entitled “I Am Shelby Lynne”. Greg’s flute solo in the song “Dreamsome” was included in the Movie Soundtrack of “ Bridget Jones’ Diary.” Greg is also featured playing saxophone on Sheryl Crow’s 2008 single “Love is Free”. As a woodwind and bassist, Greg has performed with Joe Henderson, Wayne Newton, Rich Little, Don Rickles, Connie Francis, Jimmy Dorsey, Four Tops, Bob Newhart, Ink Spots, Modernaires, Peter Marshall, and Guy Lombardo Big Band. Greg has also played saxophone, clarinet, and flute, among others for the Sacramento Philharmonic as well as the Chico and Paradise Symphonies. As a jazz soloist, Greg has performed with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Mendocino Music Festival Big Ban, and Sn Francisco All Star Big Band and Don Piestrup Big Band. As a jazz combo performer, Greg has played from Alaska to Hawaii including performances with Rocky Winslow, Grant Levin, Roger Hogan, Matt Marruci, Steve Homan, John Tchaci, Aaron Garner, Smiley Winters, Ed Kelly, Buddy Collete, John Handy, and Jon Faddis.
