California State University, Chico’s Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, which recently won awards for service at a national meeting, is organizing a memorial event at California State University, Chico Tuesday, Sept. 7, to commemorate the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Chiefs of the Chico Police and Fire Departments and the University Police Department are scheduled to speak at 1 p.m. at the event, which will take place in Trinity Commons (formerly the Free Speech Area) across from the Bell Memorial Union.

Members of Phi Kappa Tau will be selling food and refreshments in Trinity Commons between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., with proceeds to benefit the survivors of 9/11.

Last month, CSU, Chico’s Phi Kappa Tau chapter received several awards at the fraternity’s 59th national convention in Denver, Colo.

The CSU, Chico chapter won the Community Service Award, for service hours totaling more than 20 hours per member; the Philanthropy Award; the Recruitment Pacesetter Award; and the Order of the Star Chapter Award, for adherence to standards and expectations set for all fraternity chapters.
