There will be a collaborative Sacramento River clean-up event the Saturday following Labor Day, Sept. 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. California State University, Chico departments Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center, Community Action Volunteers in Education, Adventure Outings (AO), and Associated Students Recycling/Sustainability are partnering with River Partners, California State Parks, Butte County Public Works, Recology, Lowe’s Home Improvement, John Scott of Scotty’s Landing, Round Table Pizza and multiple law-enforcement agencies.

Volunteers will depart from the Adventure Outings/Recycling Warehouse at 4th and Cherry Streets. AO vans can carry 30 volunteers. There will be limited space for additional volunteers, who will have to drive themselves, so it is requested that volunteers sign up with AO (530-898-4011) as soon as possible. A pre-trip meeting will provide more details about the actual cleanup.

Lowe’s will provide gloves for volunteers, and Round Table will provide lunch. Volunteers must bring their own water.

Last September, 40 volunteers diverted 600 pounds of recycling, recovered 30 inflated tubes, and filled a 40-yard dumpster with trash.
