California State University, Chico’s Center for Economic Development (CED) will be holding two events in April for area residents.

In an effort to support the California Emerging Technology Fund, the CED will hold a Community Broadband Asset Discovery Meeting on Tuesday, April 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Chico Grange Hall, 2775 Nord Ave.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather information on infrastructure assets, like poles and cables, which provide the means necessary to deliver high-speed Internet throughout Butte County. Residents who know of any such assets are urged to attend to aid the potential development of broadband Internet services in Butte County.

The California Emerging Technology Fund http://cetfund.org/ was established by the California Public Utilities Commission in 2005.

On Wednesday, April 20, CED will present a workshop on accessing social and economic data that is no longer available from the decennial census. The American Community Survey Workshop and Introduction to the 2010 Census will take place 9 a.m. to noon in Butte Hall 207 on the CSU, Chico campus.

Participants in this hands-on workshop will learn how to perform data searches and explore differences in data sets, avoid making critical errors in reporting, determine the appropriate confidence intervals, and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the 2010 Census data.

For more information on the workshop or to register online, go to http://www.cedcal.com/events. Class size is limited to 25 attendees.
