California State University, Chico students will participate in the 12th annual Up ’til Dawn St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraiser Nov. 5, trying to win their sixth national championship as the top collegiate program raising money for childhood cancer research.

More than 2,500 students are expected to fill Acker Gym Monday between 4 p.m. and midnight to participate in the letter-writing campaign to raise money for St. Jude. Last year’s Up ’til Dawn fundraising event brought in $106,261, tops among all schools in the United States.

At the student-led event, participants address envelopes containing letters soliciting donations for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital based in Memphis, Tenn. Participants will enjoy free food and T-shirts, entertainment and the chance to win more than $10,000 in prizes including a trip to Memphis to visit St. Jude and free spring 2013 tuition.

In April 2010, St. Jude honored CSU, Chico for being the fastest school to raise $1 million for research into cancer and other catastrophic diseases affecting children.

Up ’til Dawn is sponsored by St. Jude at more than 180 campuses and universities nationwide. The CSU, Chico event is led and run by student volunteers. More information about the event is available on its Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chico-State-Up-til-Dawn/111284385560328.
