Friends of the Herbarium at Avenue 9 Gallery

Friends of the Herbarium at California State University, Chico will display a group of pressed wildflower specimens as well as herbarium collection illustrations by Susan Bazell in the Avenue 9 Gallery exhibit “It’s Our Nature!” The exhibit runs June 29-July 28, with a reception on Friday, June 29, 5-8 p.m.

On Saturday, July 21 from 2­ p.m. to 4 p.m. also at Avenue 9, there will be a talk by Friends of Herbarium member Albin Bills, a field botanist and writer and photographer for the book “Wildflowers of Table Mountain.”

Susan Bazell is a botanical illustrator who lives and works in Paradise. Bazell’s work can be seen in several books, including “Cacti, Agaves and Yuccas of California and Nevada” (Stephen Ingram, Cachuma Press, 2008), “Conifers of California” (Ronald M. Lanner, Cachuma Press, 2002) and The Life of an Oak” (Glenn Keator, Heyday Books, 1998), among others.

Bills co-authored “The Wildflowers of Table Mountain, a Naturalist’s Guide,” second edition with Samantha Mackey. It is illustrated by Larry Jansen and published by Studies from the Herbarium (PDF) at CSU, Chico.
