California State University, Chico President Paul Zingg and members of the Public Safety Committee will lead the 10th annual Moonlight Safety Walk on Thursday, Oct. 23. Campus community members are encouraged to take part.

Participants will divide into teams to walk through areas of campus to help identify safety hazards such as inadequate lighting or overgrown brush. Testing of campus blue-light safety phones will also take place.

The group will gather at Selvester’s Cafe-by-the-Creek behind Kendall Hall at 6:30 p.m. for pizza and refreshments followed by the walk, which will start at approximately 7 p.m.

Campus administrators, student government leaders, staff and faculty members and students typically take part in the walk.

Over the last 10 years, the participants of the Moonlight Safety Walk have helped identify areas of concern regarding safety issues and have helped with solutions to make improvements. Any safety concerns identified during the walk are entered into a database and reviewed by University Police and other relevant campus departments.

Contact University Police Chief Robyn Hearne for further information at 898-5555.
