For the fifth consecutive year, California State University, Chico has been named to lists honoring schools that offer the best services to veterans.

CSU, Chico has been selected as a “Top School” in the 2015 Military Advanced Education (MAE) Guide to Colleges & Universities. MAE surveys colleges and universities and evaluates them on areas such as military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services.

In addition, the University has been designated as a 2014-2015 Military Friendly School by Victory Media Inc., a veteran-owned business that has rated schools and employers on behalf of veterans since 2001. Victory Media surveys thousands of institutions regarding best practices in recruitment and retention of military personnel as civilian employees and students.

“Chico State is recognized by these publications/agencies due to the comprehensive programs that provide support to this unique population,” said Larry Langwell, coordinator of Veterans Affairs at CSU, Chico. “We have one of the oldest Student Veteran Organizations in the world, founded in 1967, and in 2005, became a founding chapter to the Student Veterans of America, which now has over 2,000 chapters.

“We have a very unique group of student service providers that collaborate with veteran agencies in our community to form the Veteran Education Support Team (VEST) that is a model to other campuses that are trying to serve and support student veterans. We also have several annual events that recognize the student veteran culture.”

CSU, Chico hosted an event Nov. 7 prior to Veterans Day, “Honoring Our Veterans,” that paid special tribute to student veterans at the University.
