California State University, Chico’s Student Life and Leadership office will host the second annual Greek Life Arete Reception Thursday, May 1, to honor exemplary students and chapters of campus fraternities and sororities. The event will be 6-8 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium.

The Arete accreditation process, which was instituted for social Greek organizations last year, holds chapters to high standards of service, scholarship, leadership, integrity, community and diversity and inclusion.

Up to 20 representatives of all Greek chapters have been invited to the event. CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg and University Advisory Board chair Farshad Azad are among the campus and community leaders planning to attend.

A number of awards will honor long-standing and emerging leaders at Greek chapters. Nominees will not know in advance if they are to receive an award at the reception.

Malcolm McLemore, program coordinator of fraternity and sorority affairs in Student Life and Leadership, said, “This event celebrates chapters and individuals going well beyond ‘doing it right.’ In particular, we will acknowledge seniors who have shown to be successful students and outstanding leaders.”

CSU, Chico has 19 sororities and fraternities whose members constitute approximately 10 percent of the University’s student population. For more information on Greek life at CSU, Chico, go to http://www.csuchico.edu/fsa/index.shtml.
