Events This Week Raise Awareness About Alcohol, Drug Misuse

The Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center (CADEC) at California State University, Chico will host a series of events and activities starting Tuesday, Oct. 27, in conjunction with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week.

CADEC peer educators—students trained to mentor fellow students—will be tabling daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Trinity Commons to raise awareness of alcohol- and drug-related issues. Student representatives from CSU, Chico’s bystander intervention program, Wildcat Reach Out And Respond! (ROAR!), will also be present for much of the tabling.

Keepin’ It Reel: Movie night
A screening of and discussion around the film “Almost Famous”
Tuesday, Oct. 27
7 p.m., University Housing Utility Building (UHUB), located near Sutter Hall

Wildcat ROAR! Halloween Edition
A hero-themed costume contest and pizza party
Wednesday, Oct. 28
5:30 p.m., Student Services Center 122/124

Wildcat Word
An open mic night on the topic of substance misuse and mental health expressed through spoken word, music and other talent
Thursday, Oct. 29
7 p.m., UHUB

This year marks the third time CSU, Chico has participated in National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week. During the week, more than 1,000 colleges and universities promote efforts that address substance abuse and reinforce personal and community responsibility and respect.
