The Associated Students (AS) at California State University, Chico will host a community discussion, Safer Chico Summit, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m. at Selvester’s Café by the Creek.

The summit immediately precedes a meeting of the Town and Gown Committee of campus and community leaders, which begins at 6 p.m. in the same location.

Organized by the AS Community Affairs Council, the summit aims to bring major organizations and programs on campus together for an evening of discussion and planning around local safety issues.

The outcomes of the summit will help inform future town and gown meetings, said AS President Deanna Jarquin. Myriad on- and off-campus groups have been invited, including city and university law enforcement, social Greek organizations, residence halls leaders, the Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center, Butte College representatives and downtown Chico businesses.

"Safety is a priority for all Chico community members, students included, and it will take a comprehensive attitude, with everyone at the table, to solve this challenge,” Jarquin said.

For more information about the summit, please contact Oliver Montalbano, AS commissioner for community affairs, at 209-380-7173 or ascommunity@csuchico.edu.
