The Community Legal Information Center’s (CLIC) Environmental Advocates (EA) is hosting a panel discussion on local land pollution issues November 16, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union room 203, highlighting the disproportionate effect land pollution has on low-income and minority communities.

The panel will include Mandi Mckay, sustainability coordinator from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company; Robyn Difalco, Butte Environmental Council’s executive director; and Steve Rodowick, Butte County’s recycling coordinator. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and all attendees will have the chance to win a Klean Kanteen and Chico Bag.

This discussion will provide the community with valuable information regarding pollution of the local and national land. The community will learn what can and should be done to protect the land by discussing business and individual practices that increase or decrease land pollution locally. In addition, the panel will provide the community with insight into common environmental burdens that disproportionately occur in low-income neighborhoods and neighborhoods of color. By using a local example of this injustice, the discussion will highlight the serious threat to health and safety posed on the residents of these communities.
