California State University, Chico’s Gateway Science Museum will host a hands-on solar cooking workshop from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1. The workshop will be led by Todd Harris, a local solar cooker advocate.

Harris will focus on the science, engineering and sustainability of simple solar cooking using low-cost, readily available materials.

Following step-by-step instructions, each participant will construct their own solar cooker to take home and also taste food made with a cooker during the event.

The workshop cost is $20 for members or $25 for non-members. Space is limited and pre-registration required.

This workshop is geared toward adults, though people as young as 12 years old may participate. However, an adult will be required to accompany participants aged 12 to 15.

The Gateway Science Museum is open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and is located on 625 Esplanade, next to Bidwell Mansion. Museum admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children and students, and free for museum members. For more information, please visit www.gatewayscience.org or call 530-898-4121.
