California State University, Chico’s School of Nursing programs were recently ranked near the top of two lists of best nursing schools.

Nursejournal.org, an online community for nurses worldwide, ranked the School of Nursing 10th out of 442 schools in the western United States in its America’s Best Nursing Schools 2015—Western Rankings.

Twenty metrics were used in five categories: quality, affordability, convenience, satisfaction and value. Licensing exam pass rates, financial aid, first-to-second year retention rates and alums’ salaries compared to tuition were among the weightiest factors.

Additionally, rntobsn.org ranked the School of Nursing’s online RN-to-BSN program No. 36 out of nearly 400 similar programs in the U.S. The program allows licensed registered nurses (RNs) to obtain a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN) using flexible and accessible online delivery methods.

The rankings are based on data drawn from the National Center for Educational Statistics, institution websites and state nursing boards. They reflect such factors as accreditation, commitment to online education, academic and career counseling services and academic quality.

The list also cites CSU, Chico’s 92.32 percent four-year average pass rate for the NCLEX-RN, the licensing exam for nurses.

“The School of Nursing is proud of its 62-year history of excellence in undergraduate and graduate nursing education,” said Carol Huston, director of the School of Nursing. “The combination of a highly qualified faculty and staff, cutting-edge curriculum, supportive clinical agencies, university support, and extremely capable students is a recipe for success.”

The School of Nursing is a part of the College of Natural Sciences and includes a state-of-the-art simulation center for hands-on learning. All of the school’s programs are accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
