More than 3,500 prospective students and their family members are expected to visit California State University, Chico during Choose Chico! on Saturday, April 11.

Hosted by CSU, Chico’s Office of Admissions, the open-house event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. gives students who have been admitted for the fall 2015 semester and their families a chance to explore the campus and town and interact with faculty, staff and current students.

The day starts with registration at the Bell Memorial Union auditorium at 8 a.m. and a President’s welcome at 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. in Laxson Auditorium. Other activities include tours of the campus and residence halls, a student involvement fair, financial aid, University Housing and honors program presentations, in addition to meetings with representatives from various colleges and departments. General sessions and tours will also be available in Spanish.

New this year will be presentations on U-Courses, special course combinations for freshmen which offer an alternative, integrated learning environment.

Choose Chico! is not a substitute for orientation, but is a highly recommended preview day for students still making their final college choice, said Wendy Needels, assistant director for the Office of Admissions.

“This time of year, students and their families are comparing their college options and we want them to experience the great things Chico State has to offer,” Needels said. “With our excellent academic opportunities, outstanding faculty, supportive campus and student-centered learning environment, Chico State is a great choice.

“Picking a college is an important decision. Choose Chico! allows admitted students the opportunity to visit our beautiful, residential campus and picture themselves as a future Wildcat. Our entire campus works hard this day to help make that decision a little easier.”

A special hashtag has been created, #ChooseChico, for social media users to chronicle their experiences that day.

Online registration closes Monday, April 6. More information about the event can be found at http://www.csuchico.edu/admissions/choose_chico.shtml.
