Approximately 3,130 undergraduate and 300 graduate students will be taking part in California State University, Chico’s 125th Commencement this week starting Thursday, May 14, and continuing through Sunday, May 17.

Bachelor’s degree exercises will begin Friday, May 15, with Commencement for the College of Agriculture at 4:30 p.m. in Laxson Auditorium. Later that evening, graduating students in the Colleges of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management will walk in exercises starting at 7:30 p.m. in University Stadium.

On Saturday, undergraduates in the Colleges of Communication and Education and Natural Sciences will participate in Commencement exercises at 9 a.m. in University Stadium. On Sunday, at the same time and location, graduating students in the Colleges of Business and of Humanities and Fine Arts will have their Commencement.

Master’s degree recipients will participate in one of two Commencement ceremonies Thursday, May 14, at Laxson Auditorium. The exercises start at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The University’s Commencement website — http://www.csuchico.edu/commencement/index.shtml — has the list of which colleges will participate in each master’s ceremony, along with much more information about the week’s events.

In addition, there are many other graduation events, including the recognition of credential candidates Wednesday, May 13; the Nurses Pinning Ceremony Friday, May 15; and a number of special celebrations. All the events are listed at http://www.csuchico.edu/commencement/sch/special-celebrations.shtml.

Free tickets to the Commencement exercises, which were made available to the graduating students, are in short supply for several events. Friday night’s Commencement in the University Stadium is sold out, though tickets are still available for a simulcast of the event to be broadcast in PAC 144. All ticket information is available at http://www.csuchico.edu/commencement/TicketsFAQ.shtml.

Several restrictions will be in place that will affect Commencement attendees and others driving in the campus area over the weekend:

  • Friday evening through Sunday, the parking lot at the corner of College Drive and Warner Street is reserved for people with accessibility needs. An accessibility placard is not required, but visitors will be stopped by University Police to confirm they need special accessibility.
  • On Friday, entry to the Health Center and Stadium parking lots will be restricted after 3 p.m. due to the evening Commencement. The only vehicles that will be allowed to enter these parking lots will be Health Center patients and staff, Commencement-related vendors and staff, and ceremony attendees with mobility-related disabilities.
  • All other university lots will be available for visitors Friday evening through Sunday for Commencement parking, including a lot owned by Chico High School at Warner/West Sacramento. A University parking lot map is available at http://www.csuchico.edu/maps/documents/Lot-loc.pdf (PDF).
  • Vehicles exiting the Health Center or Stadium parking lots after 3 p.m. on Friday will need to exit via the gate that leads to W. Sacramento Avenue; signage and University Police staff will help direct drivers to that gate.
  • Persons with accessibility concerns should contact the Accessibility Resource Center at 530-898-5959. For other parking questions, contact University Police at 530-898-5555.
