Ahmad Boura, vice president for institutional advancement at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, has been named vice president for University Advancement and chief executive officer of the University Foundation at California State University, Chico.

Ahmad BouraBoura’s appointment concludes a months-long, national search for a permanent vice president for University Advancement. He replaces Peter Smits, who served as interim vice president for University Advancement until late March. Boura begins his new position June 29.

“I am pleased that Chico State has been able to recruit such an excellent person to assume responsibility for leading the Advancement group,” said CSU, Chico Acting President Rollin Richmond. “Advancement is an important means of helping the University to serve the needs of its students, faculty and the community.  We are fortunate to have attracted Mr. Boura, who has much experience and was well received by the campus and community.”

In his role as vice president for institutional advancement at Morningside College, Boura oversees the offices of development, advancement services and alumni relations and managed a $50 million comprehensive campaign. Under his leadership, the college received best practice awards in alumni relations and annual scholarship fundraising from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s sixth district.

Prior to his appointment at Morningside College, Boura served as vice president for institutional advancement at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, where he managed the university’s programs in development, advancement, alumni relations, marketing and communications.

He holds an MBA from Franklin Pierce University and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Beirut Arab University in Beirut, Lebanon.

Before beginning his career in higher education, Boura had a successful professional soccer career in Lebanon and in the United States from 1992—2000.

“This is an exciting time for Chico State and I am honored to join this very special community,” Boura said. “I see tremendous opportunities to continue building on the University's rich history and traditions by working with the leadership team, campus community, foundation board, alumni association and University Advancement staff to develop relationships and secure the financial resources necessary to fulfill the strategic vision of Chico State.”

“Ahmad brings to us an impressive, values-based work ethic and great energy,” said CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg, who has remained active in the selection process during his medical leave for recuperation from heart surgery. “He has translated his own inspiring personal story to the task of telling an institution's ‘story’ with passion and effectiveness. He will do that for us, and in the process, take us to the next level both in terms of our institutional advancement culture and infrastructure.”

The CSU, Chico University Foundation is a nonprofit auxiliary of the University and the steward of gifts and endowments for the entire campus.

The mission of the Division of University Advancement is to encourage and promote the involvement and support of others and to advance the University in creating high-quality educational experiences for its students.
