CSU, Chico California State University, Chico achieved a “five-peat” April 23-24, winning the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition for the fifth year in a row.

The CSU, Chico student team bested 14 other university teams from around the country, and CSU, Chico students took two of the three individual performance awards.

The competition was hosted on campus by the College of Business’ Seufferlein Sales Program and the Chico State Career Center.

Each university team features four competitors. Corporate experts judge the skills of the competing students in role-playing sales situations. The two role plays, based on situations from corporations Salesforce.com and ADP, were streamed live to competition judges.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the Chico State team,” said professor Tim Heinze, executive director of the Seufferlein Sales Program. “Their coupling of strategic analysis and interpersonal skill generated truly exceptional results. The students were great, but more importantly, they were great as a team.”

Approximately 200 people participated in the event, including more than 50 corporate representatives.

The Chico team was comprised of students Stephanie Firenze, Remy Herfert, Myles Amitin and JB Harrell. Dylan Brix also trained with the team and competed as a backup contestant.

Amitin won first place for individual performance, which earned him a $1,500 prize. Brix took second place and a $1,000 award.

Finishing behind CSU, Chico in the standings were Bryant University and Baylor University, at second and third place, respectively.

Other competing schools were University of Texas, Dallas; Kansas State University; Washington State University, Vancouver; University of Wisconsin, Whitewater; Winona State University; California State University, Fullerton; Arizona State University; Georgia State University; University of San Diego; University of Missouri; California State University, Fresno; and Oregon State University.

The following corporations provided funding for the competition: ADP, Intuit, Salesforce.com, TEKsystems, Frito-Lay, Paycom, Victaulic, Enterprise Holdings, Federated Insurance, Ferguson, Lennox, PolyOne, Yelp, Paychex, Philadelphia Insurance, Solar City, Southern Wine & Spirits, Young’s Market Company, United Rentals, Insight Global, Henry Schein and Graybar.

CSU, Chico came in second at the first California Collegiate Sales Competition in 2005 and won the top spot the following year. The competition was renamed the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition in 2007. CSU, Chico came in second in 2010 but has won all the competitions since that time.

CSU, Chico’s Seufferlein Sales Program provides students with practical sales experiences and opportunities to test their skills against students from other leading business schools. Students may earn a certificate in professional sales, highlighting their expertise in professional selling and differentiating them among their peers.

The sales program has been named a Top University Sales Program by the national Sales Education Foundation for 2015. In addition, CSU, Chico is one of only 60 schools in the world with a sales program recognized by the University Sales Center Alliance, which began a certification process for sales programs in 2008.
