California State University, Chico Regional & Continuing Education invites reentry students to apply for $60,000 in scholarships from the Bernard Osher Foundation.

Scholarships are awarded to reentry students whose studies were interrupted for at least five years by circumstances beyond their control, and who now want to resume their undergraduate studies at CSU, Chico. The deadline for scholarship applications is Monday, Feb. 29, at 5 p.m. Scholarship details and an online application are available at rce.csuchico.edu/osherscholarship.

This is the 10th consecutive year that the Osher Foundation has supported this scholarship program at CSU, Chico. For the 2015-2016 academic year, 22 students were awarded a Bernard Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarship. In the last nine years, CSU, Chico Continuing Education has administered and distributed $470,898 in Bernard Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarships to 90 CSU, Chico students. In July 2010, the Bernard Osher Foundation awarded CSU, Chico Continuing Education a $1 million scholarship endowment to support reentry students.

“Last year, seven students supported by Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarships graduated and more than 60 have graduated since we started administering the scholarship. Over the past two years, through the generous support of the Bernard Osher Foundation, we have been able to increase the total available funds by $10,000 each year with the aim of supporting more students. Help us spread the word; if you know a student who may be eligible, please extend this invitation,” remarked Debra Barger, dean, Regional & Continuing Education.

The Bernard Osher Foundation, headquartered in San Francisco, was founded in 1977 by Bernard Osher, a respected businessman and community leader. The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life through the support of post-secondary scholarships, lifelong learning institutes, select integrative medicine programs and arts and educational organizations.

In addition to the CSU, Chico Osher Reentry Scholarship endowment, the Bernard Osher Foundation also supports the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) on campus. OLLI is a peer-led, learning-in-retirement organization that offers more than 110 non-credit classes and activities for adults in the region.
