“Embracing Israel and Palestine: A New Paradigm for all U.S. Foreign Policy”

Rabbi Michael Lerner will give the 2016 Hodgkins Endowment Peace Lecture — “Embracing Israel and Palestine: A New Paradigm for all U.S. Foreign Policy” — Tuesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Rowland Taylor Recital Hall (PAC 134). This event is free and open to the public.

“Rabbi Lerner will present a balanced account of the Israel/Palestine struggle and how it could be resolved,” said event coordinator Ron Hirschbein, CSU, Chico Department of Philosophy Emeritus Faculty. “He will also address the implications for a new global strategy — replacing our current Western strategy of domination to achieve homeland security with a more effective ‘strategy of generosity.’"

Rabbi Lerner is editor of Tikkun magazine, co-chair with Vandana Shiva of the interfaith (and secular humanist-and-atheist-welcoming) Network of Spiritual Progressives, and author of 11 books, including two national best sellers — “Jewish Renewal: A Path to Healing and Transformation,” and “The Left Hand of God: Taking Back our Country from the Religious Right.”

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has endorsed Rabbi Lerner’s latest book, “Embracing Israel/Palestine,” and has called it a “must-read” for every American.

“Rabbi Lerner provides us with a brilliant and hopeful vision of how to transform the Middle East from a cauldron of violence to a vanguard of peace,” Carter writes. “I hope every American will read this book and apply its lessons to change how we deal with the Middle East.”

The 2016 Hodgkins Endowment Peace Lecture is presented in conjunction with the Peace Institute at CSU, Chico, the Chico Peace and Justice Center, the College of Humanities & Fine Arts, and the Department of Philosophy.
