Nicholas Lytal, Ph.D.

Dr. Nicholas Lytal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Chico State. He is happy to be returning to his home state of California after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Arizona. While in Arizona, he developed an interest in metagenomics as a member of the Statistical Bioinformatics Group, where he was a frequent collaborator and editor for his colleagues and their publications. His research has involved big data analysis, focusing on normalization of single-cell sequencing and metagenomics data sets, which he has presented at conferences such as ENAR 2017 and JSM 2018. Dr. Lytal has also taught introductory courses for Statistics and Biostatistics, as well as a course in Statistical Computing. Aside from metagenomics and single-cell studies, he is particularly interested in developing students' skills with informatics software and other digital tools for their research.
