About the Program
We are pleased to announce we are accepting internationally trained nurses to the Chico State School of Nursing! Our program meets the requirements put forth by the Board of Registered Nursing for NCLEX and California Licensure eligibility.
Our Courses are structured as follows:
- The online theory course will begin in June and continue through the summer.
- The clinical course will 2-3 days per week for 3 weeks. Subject to change.
- The tuition for the obstretrics courses are approximately $4,485.
- The tuition for the medical/surgical courses are TBA.
- Additional fees apply, including application and interview fees, textbooks, supplies, and clinical requirements (i.e. immunizations, etc).
Eligibility
- Applicants must have finished nursing school in the last 5 years or worked as a nurse in the last 10 years.
- Applicants must submit a letter from the Board of Registered Nursing indicating the course(s) needed.
Students with an F-1 or J-1 visa, may enroll in our courses with permission from her or his institution issuing the I-20 (F) or DS-2019 (J). You will need to provide written permission from where you are currently enrolled for concurrent enrollment and optional practical training.
How to Apply
To apply, mail the CSU, Chico School of Nursing the following items:
- INRP Application (PDF)
- $100 non-refundable application fee (Payable to The CSU, Chico Research Foundation)
- A letter from the Board of Registered Nursing indicating the course(s) needed
- A 1-page typed essay describing your background in nursing, your professional strengths, goals and what you hope to gain from this experience.
- Unofficial transcripts
If your application is selected you will be invited to come to campus for an in-person interview, medication dosage test, and skill assessment. You will receive basic information regarding what to expect during these assessments.
Those invited for an interview will be charged a $200 non-refundable interview fee, and will also be required to purchase an ATI assessment at the direction of the School of Nursing.
Additional Requirements
Upon admission to the program, you will be required to submit proof or complete the following as instructed by the School of Nursing:
- Criminal background check & drug screen
- CPR certification for health care providers
- Tdap – 5 years are after age 19
- One of the following completed within the last year: negative two-step TB test, negative Quantiferon Gold Test, or a clear chest x-ray
- MMR – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hep B – 3 vaccines within a one year period or positive titer
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Flu vaccine (October – April only)
- Health insurance
- Auto insurance
- COVID-19 vaccinations - all students must be fully vaccinated or have an exemption approved by the University. Every effort will be made to place unvaccinated students; however, placement cannot be guaranteed.
