Senior Orientation Leader

Year - Senior

Major - Psychology

W-Wildcat moment: My proudest moment here at CSU Chico would have to be when I was offered the position to be a course coordinator for connection courses. I started off as a peer mentor and that was all I had my mind set for. It wasn’t until I was told that they believed I would be a great fit for this position. I didn’t really think I would be offered it or even thought I was ready for it, yet they believed in me, and it was honestly a great learning experience.

I-Involvement: Throughout my four years here I have been involved in many clubs and organizations as well as on and off campus jobs. I was a peer mentor with connection courses then course coordinator. I then became an Orientation leader last year and am now a senior staff with Orientation. I am also a Campus Ambassador with Admissions while also having an internship with Iversen Wellness and Recovery Center in Chico. Lastly, I am also involved in Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc.

L-Live: I was Born in Salinas, but I was raised in Winton. My family, however, is from Juchipila Zacatecas MX so my roots are from there.

D-Degre: I am currently working on getting my bachelor's in psychology with a double minor in Multicultural Studies and Intersectional Latinx Chicanx Studies.

C-Chico: I decided to choose Chico for many reasons. The biggest reason was because at the time I was applying for schools I was seeing a school psychologist. This person helped me so much throughout my final year of high school and I wanted to do the same thing for other people. He told me he went to CSU Chico and loved his experience there, knowing nothing about colleges I decided that I wanted to follow in his footsteps and go to CSU Chico.

A-Aspiration: My goal is to be able to become a psychologist. I would like to be able to go back to Winton and give back to my community. There are also little to no affordable mental health services offered to the community and I would like to go back and change that.

T-Tell: Never be afraid to ask for help! This is a lesson I had a hard time learning but it is one of the greatest lessons you could learn. Life is hard, that doesn’t mean you have to do everything alone. We are here to help you in any way we can, don’t be afraid.
