New Student Orientation is seeking multiple student Orientation Leaders for the Summer 2024 position! Orientation Leaders play a key role in supporting new students and guests during their transition to Chico State. They serve as knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming representatives of Chico State, advise students on General Education and graduation requirements, assist students with schedule planning and course registration, serve as a resource for campus programs and services, and lead presentations and campus tours. We seek exceptional students from all majors, including first-year students, to serve in these high impact leadership roles.

Orientation Leader Commitments

Orientation leaders go through an extensive, yet rewarding training process that helps prepare them for interactions with new students and their parents and family members. In addition to planning and facilitating orientation sessions, applicants should be prepared for the following major commitments:

UNIV 389:

In the Spring semester, all new Orientation Leaders are required to enroll in this 3-unit, academic course. This class is designed to prepare students who have been selected to serve as Orientation Leaders to be effective leaders and ambassadors of Chico State. Through interaction, lectures, videos, readings, papers, discussions, group projects, and participation in various university programs and events, students will learn campus policies, resources, academic advising fundamentals, and applying the theoretical and practical aspects of student leadership and supporting students in transition to college.

Orientation Leader Final Training

Final training takes place in late May, early June, before the first Orientation session. Attending and being present at all components of Final Training is mandatory and training is paid.

Summer Orientation Sessions

All orientation leaders must be available for all orientation sessions during the summer, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am – 5:30 pm. 

Qualifications

  • Be a Chico State student enrolled in 6 unit during the spring semester
  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Have a positive attitude and willing to learn
  • If hired, must be able to enroll in a three-unit leadership course on Tuesday & Thursday from 3:30pm – 4:45pm
