Orientation & New Student Programs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an Orientation required?

Orientation is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended that you attend. An orientation session will supply important information about your upcoming college experience at CSU, Chico.

Can I bring a guest?

Due to space limitations, we are NOT able to accommodate parents and guests at this session. Guests are welcome to explore the campus, check out the Wildcat Store, walk around downtown or hang out in the library until the program concludes. They are welcome to accompany students on the optional campus tour at the end of the program.

I live out of state and/or cannot attend Orientation – are there any alternatives?

We understand that not all students may be able to attend our spring Orientation session.  If you are unable to attend, be sure to use your on-line resources prior to registering for classes including:

  • Academic Advising Programs – Can help you determine where you are with GE and graduation requirements. Be prepared for your session by bringing unofficial copies of your transcripts.
  • Major Academic Plan or MAP – This guide helps you see what classes you need to take for your major. You may need to consult with an advisor in your Academic Department.
  • Office of the Registrar – Can help if you have issues with using the on-line registration system
I am a transfer student waiting for my final grades, can I still attend?

Yes, but depending on your admission status, you may not be able to register for classes at orientation. If you have questions about your admission status, please call the Office of Admissions at (530) 898-6321.

I have special vision, mobility or communications needs, what can I do?

Students with disabilities who anticipate needing special accommodations (such as a wheelchair, sign language interpreter, etc.) should indicate the needed service when registering for Orientation. They can also email OrientationPrograms@csuchico.edu with any needed accommodations in advance of their orientation date. For additional information on the services offered, see Chico State’s Accessibility Resource Center.

Can I just show up?

No, space is limited so we are unable to guarantee you a spot in orientation if you do not register online. This will insure that we can accommodate you and allow us to notify your major department.

When is the last day to register?

The last day to register for Orientation is Sunday, November 12, 2017 at midnight.

After I have registered online for the Orientation program, how soon can I expect a response?

You will receive confirmation via email to your Chico State student email account within 24 hours.  Please note:  All official university communication is done via email. You will not receive a letter of confirmation. Please check your personal email address or your Chico State Portal Account.

What does my orientation fee cover?

Your Orientation fees cover facilities, food, printed materials and staffing costs.

Your fees do not include travel or accommodations, so these will need to be made on an individual basis.

If I cancel, can I get a refund?

Yes, if you cancel before Sunday, November 12 at midnight, you may receive a refund; however, if you cancel after that time, no refund will be issued. If you have any questions, please call our Orientation Office Coordinator at (530) 898-5714 or email OrientationPrograms@csuchico.edu.
