Orientation & New Student Programs

Preparing for Orientation: First-Year

Before Orientation:

  • Request final transcripts from your high school  to be sent to the Office of Admissions by July 15, 2019.
  • If you have been notified that you require Early Start remediation in Math and/or English, register for Early Start before your Orientation session. 
  • If you are planning to take Calculus your first semester you are required to take the Calculus Readiness Test (CRT).
  • Obtain immunization records and make copies to bring to Orientation (you may also bring copies in the fall if you prefer.)
  • Check our Travel and Accommodations section for information including Directions to Campus and Lodging.
  • Participants who need special accommodations should contact Summer Orientation at least 10 days prior to their scheduled session.
  • Check your Wildcat email regularly. This is the official mode of communication for CSU, Chico.

Day of Orientation:

  • Parking on campus can be challenging. Plan to arrive early to allow plenty of time to park and check in for your session. Check-in begins at 8AM in the Bell Memorial Union Plaza.
  • Make sure to park in the designated lots and pay for parking or risk being ticketed. if you plan to park on campus, we suggest you download the Passport Parking App in advance so you can pay for hourly parking from your smart phone. 
  • Bring back-up copies of all transcripts and test scores (SAT, ACT, AP, etc.) in case they are needed for verification.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for Chico summer weather. We suggest bringing a sweater or sweatshirt, as air-conditioned buildings can get chilly!
  • Bring a photo ID and be prepared to take your Wildcat ID Card!

After Orientation:

  • If you have applied for financial aid, be sure to view and accept, or decline, your award offer. In your Portal Account, enter your Student Center, scroll to Finances and click View Financial Aid. Questions, contact Financial Aid.
  • Be sure to pay Registration Fees by the deadline. Check your Portal account or contact Student Financial Services at 530-898-5936.
  • Check your living assignments if you are living in University Housing.
  • Visit the Wildcat Store website to order your textbooks.
  • Plan to attend Wildcat Welcome events the week of August 20-24 including your mandatory department meeting on Friday, August 23, 2019.
  • Complete the online Alcohol Edu and Not Anymore programs as soon as possible (You can access the link through your Portal.)
  • Classes begin Monday, August 26, 2019!
