Orientation & New Student Programs

What to Expect

Please note: If you plan to bring a parent or guest, the Parent/Guest Program runs concurrently but is a separate program.

Your Orientation Session will include:

Small Group Discussion

A peer advisor from the Summer Orientation program will share:

  • Graduation requirements
  • Course selection strategies
  • Registration procedures
  • Valuable ‘Insider’ tips on how to successfully start your university career

Major and Undeclared Advising

For an optimal orientation experience, choose an orientation date when your major or possible major will be represented. Refer to the Session Dates link for college and department advising dates. A major advisor will:

  • Help you explore the major you have chosen
  • Explain specific major requirements
  • Assist you with course selection

If you haven’t yet chosen a major, you are considered Undeclared, and a professional Academic Advisor will be available to:

  • Help you explore possible majors
  • Explain general education requirements
  • Assist you with course selection

Registration for Classes

By attending a Summer Orientation session you have the earliest possible access for new students to register for Fall 2019! You will get the opportunity to register for classes with help from major and peer advisors and you will learn to navigate through your Chico State portal account.

Housing Information and Tips

University Housing Office staff will be available to answer questions and provide helpful tips about living both on and off campus. For those of you planning to live in one of the residence halls, tours of an On-Campus Residence Hall will be available at the conclusion of your orientation session at approximately 4:30pm

Information Fair

You will have the opportunity to talk with representatives from a variety of campus support programs such as Financial Aid, University Housing, Student Health Center, Study Abroad, Honors, and more.

Campus Tour

During a walk through our beautiful campus, your guide will answer any questions you have about campus resources, community, and student life.

Sessions include morning coffee/orange juice and a buffet-style lunch as well as refreshments at program conclusion.
