Orientation & New Student Programs

What to Expect

Small Group Discussion

A peer advisor from the Summer Orientation program will share:

  • University requirements
  • Course selection strategies
  • Registration procedures
  • Valuable ‘Insider’ tips on how to successfully start your university career

As a transfer student, it is essential to choose an orientation date in which your major or possible major will be represented. Refer to the Session Dates link for college and department advising dates. A major advisor will:

  • Help you explore the program you have chosen
  • Explain specific major requirements
  • Assist you with course selection

Registration for Classes

By attending a Summer Orientation session you have the earliest possible access for new students to register for Fall 2020! This portion of the orientation is your chance to register for classes with help from major and peer advisors. You will also learn to navigate through your Chico State portal account, how to complete registration, how to utilize planning tools, etc.

Please note: If you still have outstanding coursework and/or units required to meet your admission requirements, you will not be able to register for classes at Summer Orientation until your final Spring grade(s)have been received and processed by Admissions. Please bring copies of your unofficial transcripts with you to orientation to have for reference in selecting classes.
