Alica Bedore

Faculty

Alica moved to Chico in 2011 to attend Chico State where she graduated with a BS in Nutrition and Food Sciences in 2014, and an MS in Nutritional Science in 2016. During her time at Chico State as a student, she also worked at the Center for Healthy Communities (CHC) where she gained extensive knowledge on community services, diverse populations, grant management and public health. While working at the CHC, Alica was able to train and mentor other student staff and interns every semester for four and a half years; as well as work closely with other Community Based Organizations (CBO's) within Butte and the surrounding counties. Throughout this work experience, Alica's passion for food security and community nutrition grew into a love for Public Health. She continued her work here after until 2017 when she left for a position with Butte County Public Health (BCPH)

In 2017 Alica was hired by BCPH as a supervisor in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. She worked in this program for 4 years where she was trained as a Certificated Lactation Educator (CLE) and served on the California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) WIC Outreach Committee. Working at WIC, Alica was able to continue working with CBO's, providing community outreach and working directly with some of the county's most vulnerable populations. In 2021 Alica had an opportunity to expand her experience within public health and transferred to the COVID program that had been created in response to the epidemic. As COVID became endemic, the work that was being done was absorbed into the Infectious Disease Control (IDC) program. Today, Alica continues to work as a supervisor in the IDC program overseeing staff and grants for COVID, STI's, HIV, TB and enteric diseases.
