Executive Memorandum 94-005 April 14, 1994

From: Manuel A. Esteban, President

Subject: Approval for the Transfer of Ethnic and Women's Studies from ILIS to the College of Behavior and Social Sciences as the Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies

CENTER FOR MULTICULTURAL AND GENDER STUDIES

The existing Ethnic and Women's Studies Program will be reorganized into a Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies. This Center will be placed in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences under the administrative control of the Dean. The Dean of Behavioral and Social Sciences will conduct a search to appoint a coordinator to oversee all operations of the Center. The Coordinator will receive .50-assigned time to fulfill these responsibilities. The Center will expand the program's present focus to become a source and an advocate for multicultural and gender knowledge, experience, and opportunities across campus. To that end, campuswide advisory groups made up of faculty, staff, and students from various colleges will be formed to assist in the expansion of each program and in the development of this Center.

During fall 1996, the Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies will undergo its first program review. Continuation of this program will depend upon a positive review.
