Subject: Approval for Peace Institute

PEACE INSTITUTE

Upon the recommendation of the Academic Senate and with the concurrence of the Provost, I approve the establishment of the Peace Institute, effective immediately.

The Peace Institute will be housed within the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Its purpose is to encourage the study and promotion of interpersonal, national, and international peace. It will provide additional support for student-centered campus activities and for community members engaged in peace-focused endeavors and will develop and promote new opportunities for education and research. The Institute, committed to diverse approaches to minimizing the danger of conflict, will draw from a wide spectrum of prominent authorities in planning its lectures, conferences, curriculum development, and outreach.
