Subject: Approval of a Minor Change to the BS in Physics
Upon the recommendation of the Provost, I approve a minor change to the BS in Physics. This change increases the number of units in the major core from 46 to 49 by increasing the number of upper-division core units from 10 to 13. PHYS 300B will no longer be required and two new courses will be added to the list of required courses: PHYS 315 and PHYS 327.
The number of major option units will decrease from 24-35 to 21-29. The number of units for the Option in Professional Physics will reduce from 24-25 to 21. The option core units will increase by 3 units by adding PHYS 435A to the list of required courses. The advising patterns (15-16 units) will be removed and replaced with the selection of 3 courses from a list of elective courses.
The number of units for the Option in General Physics will reduce from 35 to 29. This unit reduction will occur through the removal of the 6 unit selection of any upper-division physics courses. The number of units for the major will change from 70-81 to 70-78. This change will be effective Fall 2014.
